This corner has been dubbed "Temperance Corner". Alcohol abuse was considered a serious problem at several periods in U.S. history, even before the prohibition era. Depicted are related publications, temperance group standards (staffs carried in parades), and items that reflect the era. On the first shelf is a spitoon and a coffer pot (for the hangover). The bottom shelf has a bottle capper and two jugs, possibly used in brewing and holding moonshine.
