Monitor No. 1 Hand Pumper was built in Boston in 1842 and first used in West Newton, Mass. Purchased by the Monitor Engine Company in South Wolfeboro in 1874, it was the second pumper used by that Company. The Company was first organized in 1862. This pumper was the last piece of hand equipment taken out of service in Wolfeboro, in the late 1930's. The Wolfeboro Historical Society restored the pumper in 1981.
