The Sheridan House was built in the center of downtown in 1795, and was a tavern and lodging facility with many name changes, eventually becoming the Sheridan House in 1891. The second floor was an open hall used for dances, concerts, vaudeville shows, political rallies and meetings. Eventually, it deteriorated to a low budget hotel, was generally considered as an eyesore, and was torn down in 1941 and a gas station was built there. The site is on North Main Street, now the Wolfeboro Marketplace next to the Durgin Building. Card is c. 1910.
