Wolfeboro Historical Society Digital Archive Museum Tours Firehouse Tour

This Amoskeag Steam Pumping Engine was built in Manchester, NH, c. 1875, by the Manchester Locomotive Works. Using wood or coal as fuel, it replaced the hand pumpers. With a flow capacity of about 700 gallons/minute, it was spectacular in operation and impressive going down the road, pulled by two strong horses. Originally used in Bangor, Maine, it was restored and loaned to the Town in 1982 by Christie & Q. David Bowers.
